History and Business activities

BNP Paribas Personal Finance has had a presence in Germany since 2001, firstly by launching Cetelem Bank through the acquisition of WKV Bank, a local Bavarian bank. In 2005 the bank was rebranded into Dresdner Cetelem Kreditbank. Following the acquisition of Dresdner Bank by Commerzbank in 2010, the bank is acting under the final brand name Commerz Finanz. The joint venture remains 50.1% owned by BNP Paribas Personal Finance and 49.9% by Commerzbank. In 2014, BNP Paribas Personal Finance and Commerzbank have renewed their business cooperation.

Commerz Finanz is focused on consumer financing products such as personal loans and retail finance for classic retail as well as E-Commerce. The portfolio includes consumer credit and revolving credit cards. Business partners and customers are retail companies and car dealers of different sizes, banks, insurances and other corporations of the financial service industry.

Commerz Finanz is to be the exclusive provider of consumer credit for the joint venture partner Commerzbank (personal loans and revolving credit) within Commerzbank’s network of 1,100 branches – a potential of more than 15 million private customers in Germany.

BNP Paribas Personal Finance is also in Germany with Von Essen Bank which proposes financing solutions for all the situations that the customers’ needs: consumer credit, consumer finance, loan consolidation, and mortgage.
